The Butter Lamps of Boudhanath

At dusk the great mandala of Boudhanath glows. Locals and travellers alike join the kora, walking clockwise as butter lamps are lit one by one. The murmur of mantras, the turning of prayer wheels, the scent of juniper smoke — Boudhanath at night is one of the most moving experiences in the Kathmandu Valley.
